The U.S. Department of Interior announced May 25, 2012 that it has approved an application submitted by the Ione Band of Miwok Indians in 2006 to build a casino on a 228-acre parcel of land near Plymouth in Amador County.
Amador County has one existing casino, the Jackson Rancheria Casino & Hotel in Jackson, and a second one, Buena Vista Casino near Ione, whose opening is delayed by a lawsuit. On June 29, 2012 Amador County filed a new lawsuit against the federal government in hopes of stopping this casino.
The scheduled dates for construction and grand opening are now delayed on to be determined.

Well, Caltrans sure does have some plans to do something with our highway (Jackson Road/State Hwy 16)....they plan to bail on it and turn it over to SacCounty, who in turn already plans to put stoplights at every new "city" block between Sunrise and Folsom Blvd, to support developers in that area who need access to the (ex)Hwy for their projects; you can bet this will also happen with future developer projects adjacent to Jackson Road east of Sunrise. Welcome to poorly planned snail pace gridlock.
